Urban Development
VDM is a strong Australian engineering and construction business which has been providing the urban development sector with innovative solutions since 1974.
From formative concepts and engineering planning of a 142 hectare golf and residential resort; from complete structural engineering of imposing 53 storey dual towers to providing structural and civil designs for a 184-bed hospital building; from construction of a 7 storey building with 40 luxury apartments plus jetty, boardwalk and restaurant to the construction of a gas-tight 5,000m2 building, VDM is capable of bringing the diverse skills of its people and a policy of constant improvement to every project we undertake.
VDM’s engineers are considered to be amongst the most experienced in Australia. While always seeking innovative solutions VDM’s primary commitment is to cost efficiency, practical design, constructability and the timely delivery of every project.
VDM’s work safety policy ensures that all our activities comply with the relevant Australian standards and the company’s culture embraces sound environmental policies, sustainability, social and community involvement and indigenous partnering.
VDM Engineering’s core capabilities come together in this market sector - civil and structural engineering, environmental engineering, project management, site supervision and building services engineering including mechanical, electrical, fire, transportation, communication and specialist lighting services.
VDM Engineering seeks to remain at the forefront of engineering analysis and project documentation techniques. VDM does this by committing to a budget for research and development and maintaining close working relationships with leading academic institutions. In this regard VDM is distinguished by high- level technical capabilities and an individual, consultative approach to engineering design and project management.
VDM has the flexibility and capability to deliver design services to remote and overseas sites by establishing design teams on location, as it has done for major projects in Bahrain, Hanoi and Airlie Beach.
VDM Engineering has specialist capabilities in architectural engineering which is a specialisation in distinctive and complex structures. These include dynamic wind and earthquake analysis for high-rise buildings, and construction method studies leading to substantive temporary works. Through building information modelling (BIM) VDM can present clients with virtual design and construction technology for all projects. At VDM we take pride in our abilities to design, procure and manage projects for clients to a very high standard.
VDM Construction has a breadth of experience in the construction of resorts, mixed use residential sites, public buildings such as schools and hospitals, medical and aged care centres, shopping centres, Government buildings such as bulk housing and courthouses, commercial and industrial structures such as offices, warehouses, workshops and distribution centres. This experience extends to both metropolitan and regional urban projects.
VDM provides specialist technology in the form of the Hyparspace building system. An unique method of constructing large buildings that are inherently strong, the Hyparspace system is a rapid construction technique providing excellent corrosion control, hygiene, air and gas tightness, dust proofing and minimal structural steel and support columns within each design. These critical factors result in increased safety, reduced costs and faster construction with the added benefit of substantially lowering long-term maintenance costs.
Over many years VDM has demonstrated innovative, technically challenging and ground breaking civil construction capabilities in land development projects. Services consist of bulk civil earthworks, marine and canal civil engineering works, golf courses, road works, land sub divisions, underground services, residential canal developments and dam construction for urban and regional projects.
